Scripture of the Week: But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, "Indeed, I said to myself, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.' II Kings 5:11 NKV
Insight: Divine healing is not magic; it is divine. Therefore, one cannot treat the things of God as trite. We cannot believe as though any individual can heal at will. God and God alone is our healer. However, He did give us the information, the tools, and the faith to believe for His divine intervention to heal those who are sick. He also gave us some very clear blocks to healing. One of which is pride.
Naaman struggled with the instructions of the prophet because he thought he was above such things as bathing in a dirty river. He was under the false assumption that the man of God could simply make him whole without requiring any participation on Naaman’s part. Didn’t this prophet know he was a very busy and important man?
God is sovereign and He will choose the time, the method, and the place of every divine healing. Several years ago I was watching Larry King and he was interviewing a minister of the Gospel. He arrogantly asked the minister, “If you can heal, why don’t you go to the hospital and heal everyone in it?” The truth is, if we could heal at will, we would not need to rely on God. It would no longer be divine. It is His gift, not ours, to use as He chooses, and sometimes He requires our participation.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to never take your gifts for granted. Help me to understand and believe that you are ultimately in control and I am just a vessel ready for your good work as you see fit. Help me not to minimize your influence or your power in my day-to-day living. I choose to believe that your divine healing takes place as you choose, because I understand that you know what is best for me. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
