RepentApril 26, 2011 Repent, turn and live: The beauty of the New Covenant is the understanding of the grace of God, the love of Jesus, and the desire it produces in us to walk a life of repentance. Repentance is not a onetime deal; its a lifestyle. We all fall short. We all sin. We all need to be forgiven. Repentance is a result of godly sorrow for our sins. When we truly understand the sacrificial love of Christ, we will feel grieved in our spirit when we offend him. We will feel sorrow when we walk in a way that is counter to His leading, His precepts, and His laws. We cannot grasp the depths of His love and continue on in a sinful lifestyle. Why? Because our own heart will condemn us. Yes, our heart will feel condemned. Condemnation is a tool one of satans favorite tools because it keeps us separated from the presence of God. Conviction, on the other hand, is a tool of God, to bring us to a decision to change. The Holy Spirit comes and convicts us. He encourages us to turn from our sin and be reunited to God. Conviction brings a godly sorrow for our sins, so much so, that we turn from our sins. If we understand the cross, we begin to see the power in it to pull us out of our sinful lifestyle. True repentance will break strongholds or mindsets that are destructive in our life. Repentance will cause us to be freed of deep-seated issues that hold us down. Repentance will cause us to walk in freedom from oppression. Repentance is a powerful tool that can bring us closer to our risen Savior. How do we repent? 1. Recognize, acknowledge and confess your sin. 2. Make a decision to change. 3. Be honest with God from the heart, not the head. 4. Ask Him to help you turn from your sin. 5. When you fall, get up again and repent. 6. Renew your mind with the truth of the scripture. 7. Persevere. If you are thinking,-I do not need to repent of anything. You may want to repent of pride. We all have things in our life and heart that displease the Lord in some way or actions and mindsets that aren't in line with the Word of God. We are bombarded daily with the temptation to sin. Practice a lifestyle of repentance and sin loses its strong hold. Practice a lifestyle of repentance and you will be refreshed and renewed. Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19 NASB Today is the day. Dear Precious Father, Thank you for your gift of repentance, that allows us to turn from the very things that hurt us and cause us to feel separated from you. Give us strength and wisdom to repent quickly from our sins. Help us to see the hidden sins of our heart, that we might be cleansed and renewed this very day. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen. 58295 views Jojol (July 18, 2012)I confess that I srtggule with judgment of others. I have been for many years. In this I mean, I get an initial reaction/impression of someone if (for lack of a better word) negative, then I proceed to be cautious and hold onto the impression until otherwise changed. Now on the opposite of that reaction, if I find you favorable (oh Lord that sound pompous) then I go fully into the relationship until you shown that you do no value me. Not sure if this is self-preservation or judgment. But it feels like judgment to me. So I srtggule with this in terms of how open am I to really establishing a relationship with anyone coming into my life. If I am be to Christ-like, then my efforts should be to be love , be agape, and really try to be in union with all that I meet because this may be an opportunity to bring love to the person placed before me. I know this and are very aware of my srtggule with judgment and I question, will I be open to the next person I meet? Will I be open to meet them where they are at? So I lift this sin to my God and pray that He will make my awareness grow and I react more like He would, so that He indwells in me. And I pray that He be much gentler with me than I have been to His people. ADD YOUR COMMENT HERE |
