The key to understanding tragedy is to understand its source. Death and pain and every other tragedy came into this world because of sin. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they weren't just doing something God had told them not to do. It was a blatant, open act of rebellion in thought, word, and deed against the God that had made them and had supplied all their need. It was saying that God was a liar and believing Satan instead. It was yeilding to the temptation to "be like God" Gen. 3:5

Every graveyard, hospital, prison or courtroom is the terrible effect of that rebellion. We don't understand why God allows evil to happen, but evil happens because we live in an evil world. Don't ever underestimate the devastating effects of sin.

What was sin's greatest tragedy? It was the Cross, for had it not been for sin, Jesus would never have had to die. But Christ triumphed over tragedy and so can we, because of him.
